The work

A build, start to finish.

Below is a recent build in full, with what went into it, so you can judge the standard for yourself rather than take my word for it.

The brief

A family kitchen opening in Ashburn, cooking recipes their mother gathered from both grandmothers over forty years. They needed to sell frozen food online, take catering enquiries, and explain who they are to an audience that reads English, Arabic, or both. They had no website.

What I built

  • A working shop: product cards, portion sizes, a running cart, and checkout handled by Shopify so card details never touch the site
  • A seven-step catering enquiry that asks what kind of event it is before it asks for contact details
  • The family's story, told with their own photography instead of stock
  • Dish names set in Arabic alongside the English, in a typeface that suits it
  • Delivery zones, storage and cooking guidance, and an FAQ answering the questions they kept getting asked

The part that mattered most

The palette came out of their own food photography. I sampled the walnut table the dishes were shot on, and the color of the kubba itself. That is why the site looks like their kitchen. A warm-beige palette off the shelf would have been quicker and would have looked like everyone else's.

01  Shop and cart

Six dishes, each with portion sizes and its own price. The cart keeps a running subtotal, then hands the whole basket to Shopify for payment.

02  Catering enquiries

Seven steps, and none of them ask for a phone number until the useful questions are answered. By the time it reaches the inbox there is enough to quote from.

Step one of the catering enquiry form, asking what type of event is being planned.
03  The story

Their own photography throughout, with the Arabic set alongside the English rather than bolted on afterwards. No stock imagery anywhere on the site.

04  On a phone

The same build at phone width. Navigation, shop and cart adapt to the screen instead of shrinking to fit it.

The short version

How I show work

Every build that goes live gets put on this page in full, with the client named and the site linked. No cropped screenshots, no work I cannot point at, and nothing invented to fill space.
